New Life Spectrum Insectum Large 600g

Description

New Life Spectrum Insectum Large 600g — Sinking 3–3.5 mm insect-protein pellet for big-mouthed fish

Large fish waste a fine pellet, and many simply ignore it, so the biggest feeders in the aquarium need a food cut to their size. New Life Spectrum Insectum Large 600g (SKU: 124774) is the 600 g pack of Insectum Large, a 3 to 3.5 mm sinking pellet from New Life Spectrum. It is made on the maker’s soy-free Spectrum Nutrition Formula, with whole Antarctic krill and fish oil under five insect proteins: mealworms, silkworm pupae, black soldier fly larvae, crickets and grasshoppers. Moringa leaf supplies vitamins A and D, calcium, potassium and protein. The 600 g pack is a sensible quantity for a keeper with a few large fish, since bigger fish eat more by weight and a smaller jar does not last.

The Large grade is the top of the three Insectum sizes, above Regular at 1 to 1.5 mm and Medium at 2 to 2.5 mm. The size suits fish such as adult cichlids, large catfish, big barbs and other species that take food in a single gulp, and it is also the grade for fish moving off Medium as they put on length. New Life Spectrum describes the food as suited to a wide variety of fish and advises feeding its diets exclusively. The maker’s directions for its other sinking pellets are twice-daily feeds finished in about a minute. Because large fish produce more waste, small measured feeds also help keep the water clean. Large fish also tend to feed more aggressively, so scattering the pellets across the tank helps every fish get a share.

Usage & Application

When to Use

• Large cichlids and catfish: Species that swallow food whole and ignore small pellets.
• Grown-out fish: Stock moving up from Medium once they pass the 2.5 mm size.
• Big-fish tanks: Display tanks where the fish eat a lot at each feed.
• Insect-eating species: Fish that take insects in the wild.

Feeding Guide

• Two feeds a day: Keep the portions to what the fish finish in about a minute.
• Count the pellets: Large pellets are easy to count, which makes portions consistent.
• Watch the bottom: Remove pellets that sink out of reach of slower fish.
• Store sealed: Keep the pack cool, dry and out of direct sun.
