New Life Spectrum Koi Basics 8kg

Description

New Life Spectrum Koi Basics 8kg — Bulk floating 5.5–6 mm koi pellet for large ponds and koi collections

A large pond with a big koi population is a food-hungry system, and the economical way to feed it is a bulk bag of a pellet that the fish already know. New Life Spectrum Koi Basics 8kg (SKU: 724778) is the largest size of Koi Basics, the staple floating pellet in the New Life Spectrum koi range. The 5.5 to 6 mm pellet is built on krill, fish oil, seaweeds and insect protein with aquatic vegetables, and the maker names five insect proteins: silkworm pupae, black soldier fly larvae, mealworms, grasshoppers and crickets. It states that the koi foods have no soybean additives. At 8 kg this is five times the 1.6 kg bag and well suited to a pond or a group of ponds fed throughout the season.

The maker’s pitch for the koi line is a high-density pellet that gives more feedings from each bag and creates less waste in the water, and its foods are made in the USA. The Basics grade is the daily staple, with Koi Grow for young fish and Koi Show for colour-focused feeding, so a large pond with mixed ages may use more than one bag over a season. Handling a bag this size calls for more care than a small one: lift it with two hands, store it off the floor in a cool, dry shed or a lidded drum, and keep a small scoop tub by the pond for daily use. Because the pellet floats, the fish can be watched taking it, and the portion can be judged by what is cleared in a few minutes.
