Pro’s Choice Axolotl Food 80g

Description

Pro’s Choice Axolotl Food 80g — Prepared food for pet axolotls kept in cool freshwater aquariums

Axolotls are carnivores that find food by smell and movement on the tank floor, and a prepared food made for them is easier to portion and store than a tub of live worms. Pro’s Choice Axolotl Food 80g (SKU: FS96) is an 80 g pack of prepared axolotl food sold under the Pro’s Choice label, for the Mexican axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) kept as a pet. The ingredient list, analysis and food form are not published online for this product, so the pack label is the reference for what is in it and for the piece size, which matters most when feeding small juveniles that need food they can swallow whole.

Axolotls feed from the bottom, so food should be dropped where the animal rests or offered from feeding tongs, close enough for it to sense. General husbandry guidance is to feed juveniles daily and adults every two to three days, offering only what is eaten within a few minutes. Axolotls are messy feeders and leftover food fouls the water quickly, so anything uneaten should come out with a pipette or turkey baster after the feed. A prepared food sits well alongside earthworms, bloodworm and other frozen foods in a varied diet. Axolotls also need cool, clean water, generally kept below about 20 °C with gentle filtration, and overfeeding is the most common way that water quality slips. An 80 g pack lasts a single axolotl a long time at that feeding rate.
