A cube shows an aquascape from three sides and gives depth that a long, shallow tank cannot, which is why so many nano reefs and Iwagumi layouts start as a square footprint. Opti Clear glass 6mm 40x40x40 (SKU: OC64) is a rimless glass aquarium measuring 40 cm long, 40 cm wide and 40 cm high, built from 6 mm Opti Clear glass and supplied without lids. Opti Clear is the low-iron glass type that removes the green tint seen through the edges of standard float glass, so colours of fish, plants and coral read more truly.

The external measurements give a gross volume of 64 litres, which is where the SKU number comes from; actual water volume is lower once substrate, rock and the gap below the top edge are allowed for, so plan on roughly 50 to 55 litres of water in a typical set-up. Filled, the tank with water, substrate and hardscape will weigh around 70 kg or more, so it needs a level, rigid stand rated for the load, with a thin levelling mat under the glass if the top of the stand is not perfectly flat. Plastic legs are not included. Because there is no top frame, filtration, lighting and heating are chosen separately: hang-on or canister filters, a clamp-on or hanging LED and an internal heater all suit a 40 cm cube. Leaving it open-topped suits planted tanks and reefs; species that jump need a separate cover.

Installation & Setup Guide

• Prepare the stand: Use a level surface rated for at least 80 kg, with a mat if the top is not perfectly flat.
• Rinse and leak-test: Wipe the glass with water only, fill in place and check the seams for 24 hours.
• Fit equipment: Add a filter, heater and light sized for about 50 to 55 litres of water.
• Cover if needed: Add a separate lid or mesh for fish that jump.
