A 50 cm tank is the size most first aquariums start at: big enough to hold a small community of fish steadily, small enough to sit on a sideboard or a bench in the fish room. Tank 20″ 500x250x280 (SKU: R20) is a plain rectangular glass aquarium measuring 50 cm long, 25 cm wide and 28 cm high, built from 5 mm glass joined with black silicone and supplied with a sliding lid. The “20 inch” in the name is its nominal length; the tank is sold as the bare glass box, ready for whichever filter, heater and light suit the stock planned for it.

From the outside measurements the gross volume works out at 35 litres. Allowing for substrate, decor and the gap below the lid, a realistic water volume is around 28 to 30 litres, which is the figure to use when sizing a filter, heater and medication doses. Filled and decorated, expect a total weight of about 40 kg, so the tank needs a flat, level surface that will carry that load across its whole base. The black silicone gives the seams a neat, defined look, and the sliding lid allows feeding without lifting the whole cover while slowing evaporation and keeping jumpers in. Plastic legs are not included. A 50 × 25 cm footprint also makes this a handy hospital, quarantine or grow-out tank alongside a larger display.
