Tank 2x12x180, sliding lid, black background

Description

Tank 2x12x180, sliding lid, black background — Glass aquarium with sliding lid and black backing

A tank with a bare back pane shows every cable, filter body and bit of equipment behind it, which is exactly what a black background is there to hide. Tank 2x12x180, sliding lid, black background (SKU: EG21218B) is a rectangular glass aquarium from Absolute fitted with a black background panel on the rear pane and a sliding glass lid across the top, aimed at a straightforward freshwater community set-up rather than a planted display or a reptile enclosure. The black backing sits behind the glass rather than being painted onto it, giving a dark, even backdrop that lifts fish colour and hides equipment, while the two-panel sliding lid allows one side to be opened for feeding or maintenance without removing the whole cover.

The supplier’s own exact length, width and height for this model are not independently confirmed; the name indicates a tank in the smaller to mid-size range of the “2 foot” class common in Australian tank sizing, and this should be checked against the listing’s own measurements before a stand or cabinet is chosen. The sliding lid is a two-panel glass cover rather than a single hinged pane, which limits evaporation and keeps dust and jumping fish contained while still giving quick partial access. As a plain aquarium rather than a kit, it is supplied without a light, filter or heater, so this equipment is chosen and fitted separately to suit the stocking plan. A tank of this kind suits a community of small to medium freshwater fish or a simple cichlid set-up where the black background is doing the visual work rather than a planted or aquascaped display.

Usage & Application

When to Use

• Freshwater community tanks: A straightforward display tank with a dark backdrop.
• Hiding equipment: The black background conceals cables and filter bodies behind the glass.
• Colour-forward displays: A dark backing that lifts contrast against brightly coloured fish.
• Custom equipment set-ups: A bare tank for a keeper fitting their own filter, light and heater.

Installation & Setup Guide

• Confirm the measurements: Check the listing’s own dimensions against the available space before ordering a stand.
• Use a rated, level stand: Support the full weight of tank, substrate and water evenly.
• Fit the sliding lid: Slot both lid panels into their rails before filling with water.
• Cycle before stocking: Run the chosen filter for several weeks before adding fish.
