A nano reef is small enough that a full-size fixture overpowers it, so the light needs to be compact, adjustable and quiet. Spectra Aqua Knight M029-v2 (SKU: SM02902) is the second version of Spectra Aquarium’s Aqua Knight, a 36 W full-spectrum LED for nano marine aquariums made by the Dongguan, China maker. Version 2 replaces the first model’s scattered light source with dense matrix chips, placed under 90° optical lenses and a reflective cup that Spectra says spread the light more evenly and increase penetration. Controls are a touch panel with no mechanical keys and an LCD display, and the light is held over the tank on a flexible gooseneck arm. Pet Alliance, which lists the range for Australia, rates it for nano tanks of 30 to 50 cm.

Timing runs over three programmed periods, which is how the sunrise and sunset ramps are built, and three built-in dimming channels set the intensity. An intelligent fan adjusts its speed to the temperature of the heat sink and is described as quiet. The input is AC 110–240 V, and Spectra gives a 12-month warranty with accessory replacement, excluding external appearance. Spectra does not publish the dimensions of the version 2 body, so none are given here. The earlier Aqua Knight M029 is a different model, with 30 W, nine LEDs, two channels and a 30 to 45 cm tank rating, and its figures should not be applied to this one.
