Aquael Leddy Tube Adapter — T5/T8 retrofit set for fitting Leddy LED tubes into fluorescent hoods

An old hood built for a T5 or T8 fluorescent tube does not automatically take a modern LED module, because the end caps and tube diameter are different. Aquael Leddy Tube Adapter (SKU: 113250) is a two-piece adapter set from Aquael that clamps onto each end of a Leddy Tube or Leddy Tube Day & Night LED module, letting it sit in a fixture originally built for a traditional T5 (about 15 mm diameter) or T8 (about 25 mm diameter) fluorescent lamp. The Leddy Tube itself is not included; this is the mounting hardware only, sold as the pair needed for one tube.

Each adapter clamp adjusts in length at the tube end so a single Leddy module can be centred correctly in a fixture that is longer than the LED tube, since fluorescent fittings are typically sized to a longer lamp than Aquael’s equivalent LED replacement. Aquael’s Leddy Tube range covers 10 W (415 mm) tubes for fixtures of roughly 535 to 665 mm, 14 W (700 mm) tubes for 820 to 950 mm fixtures, and 17 W (1015 mm) tubes for 1135 to 1265 mm fixtures, along with shorter “J” variants (620 mm and 925 mm) sized mainly for Juwel aquarium hoods. Fitting the right pair of adapters is what makes an existing T5 or T8 hood usable with the LED tube rather than replacing the whole light unit, and the same adapters apply whether the tube carries the Sunny, Plant or Actinic spectrum.

Usage & Application

When to Use

  • Upgrading an old fluorescent hood: Fit an LED Leddy Tube without replacing the whole light fixture.
  • T5 fixtures: Fittings built for approximately 15 mm diameter fluorescent tubes.
  • T8 fixtures: Fittings built for approximately 25 mm diameter fluorescent tubes.
  • Mismatched lengths: Where the fixture is longer than the Leddy Tube being installed.

Installation & Replacement Guide

  • Measure the fixture: Note the hood’s internal fitting length and whether the lampholders are T5 or T8 spacing.
  • Clamp the adapters: Fit one adapter onto each end of the Leddy Tube module.
  • Adjust for length: Extend each clamp so the combined length matches the hood’s fitting range.
  • Seat the tube: Click the adapted module into the existing T5 or T8 end caps in place of the fluorescent lamp.
