A 45 cm tank is where many aquascapers first try a carpet, and a carpet only spreads where the light reaches the substrate evenly from end to end. Chihiros Series A II 45cm (Bluetooth) (SKU: D-CA2-45) is the A II 451, a 21 W planted-tank LED with 50 LEDs set in three rows along a 10 mm thin aluminium body. Like every A II, it has the Bluetooth controller built into the fixture, so on/off times, dimming and sunrise and sunset curves are set from the free My Chihiros app on iOS or Android rather than a plug-in timer.

The A II 451 measures 435 mm long and 67 mm deep, and with its transparent acrylic legs fitted it spans exactly 450 mm, so it sits across the ends of a standard 45 cm rimless tank on glass up to about 8 mm thick. Output is about 1,950 lumens according to both US and European retailers, from white LEDs of around 8,000 K covering roughly 400 to 700 nm with the emphasis on red and blue. The aluminium shell carries heat away from the LEDs, and the light can be tilted in its acrylic holder to push more light to the back of the scape. Aquasabi advises against running it under a closed lid, and an optional suspension kit is available for hanging.

When to Use

• 45 cm rimless tanks: Standard 45 cm aquariums with glass up to about 8 mm.
• Carpeting plants: Even coverage across the floor of a shallow scape.
• Iwagumi and nature layouts: Rock and plant scapes where light quality shows.
• Longer tanks: Odd sizes a little over 45 cm with the A II Adjustable Holder.

Installation & Setup Guide

• Attach the legs: Fix the acrylic legs to each end with the supplied screws.
• Place and angle: Rest the legs on the side glass and tilt the light to suit the layout.
• Connect the app: Pair the light in My Chihiros over Bluetooth.
• Build up slowly: Raise intensity over the first weeks as plants root in.
