Pico and nano tanks are usually sold with a lamp that lights the fish but not the plants, and a proper planted light is rarely made small enough to fit. Chihiros Series B II 20cm (SKU: D-CB-20) is the B20, the smallest light in Chihiros’ B series, a 176 mm aluminium bar that stands on extendable feet over tanks from 20 to 30 cm long. It carries 24 white LEDs on the outer rows and 6 RGB 3-in-1 LEDs down the middle, drawing 12.7 W for a listed 813 lumens. The white LEDs supply the bulk of the light for plants, while the RGB chips improve colour rendering in plants and fish.

This is the non-Bluetooth version: without a controller it simply switches on and off with the power, and dimming, sunrise and sunset ramps and a daily timer are added with the Chihiros Commander 1 Bluetooth controller, sold separately. The feet clamp onto glass up to 8 mm thick, which covers most rimless nanos, and the body is just 12 mm high and 56 mm deep. European distributor Aquasabi points out that Chihiros’ lumen figures are laboratory values and real output may vary, and that B series lights are not designed to sit under a closed lid. An optional cable suspension kit lets the light hang above a tank instead. For tanks longer than 30 cm, the B30 is the next size up.

How to Use / Installation Process

• Extend the feet: Slide the feet out to match the outside length of the tank.
• Seat on the glass: Rest the feet on the side panes, up to 8 mm thick.
• Add control: Plug the Commander 1 between the light and its power supply for dimming.
• Set a photoperiod: Run a steady daily schedule rather than switching by hand.
