A deep tank needs a long tube, or the water change ends with a wet shoulder. Fluval Gravel Cleaner Large 60cm (SKU: MGC04) is the largest Fluval EasyVac, with an oval tube 60 cm (24 in) long and about 6.4 cm (2.5 in) wide that reaches the bottom of tall display tanks while your hand stays near the surface. Like the rest of the range it runs on gravity alone: Quick-Start priming means a shaking motion while the tube is submerged starts the siphon, an integrated gravel guard prevents clogging, and a 1.8 m (6 ft) non-kink hose carries dirty water to the bucket.

Flow is set at the bucket end with Fluval’s 2-in-1 clip, which holds the hose on the rim and offers Open, Reduced and Closed positions, so a heavy clean can be slowed down near plants and stopped while the tube is repositioned. Fluval rates the EasyVac as suitable for all substrates and for both fresh and salt water, and the wider Large tube moves more water per minute than the Small (MGC02) and Medium, which suits big community tanks, goldfish and cichlid aquariums with heavy waste loads. The box holds the 60 cm oval tube, hose, non-kink hose attachment and bucket clip; nothing needs plugging in or priming by mouth.

Usage & Application

When to Use

• Tall and large aquariums: Tanks 50 cm or more in height, where shorter cleaners leave the substrate out of reach.
• Heavy-waste fish: Goldfish, cichlids and large community tanks that leave a lot of debris in the gravel.
• Fast water changes: The 6.4 cm tube and Open setting empty a big tank quickly.
• Fresh or saltwater: All substrates in either water type.

How to Use

• Bucket first: Stand a bucket below the tank and clip the hose onto its rim with the valve Open.
• Shake to start: Submerge the tube and move it up and down until the siphon takes hold.
• Clean in sections: Push the tube into the gravel, let debris lift, then move on; the gravel guard holds stones back.
• Control the drain: Use Reduced around plants and Closed to pause; stop at a 20 to 30 per cent change.
