Mag-float Large (l82 X W64 X H25mm)

Description

Mag-float Large (l82 X W64 X H25mm) — Magnetic glass cleaner for aquariums up to about 1325 litres

A big display tank means a wide pane of glass and, often, glass thick enough that a small cleaner’s magnets barely grip. Mag-float Large (l82 X W64 X H25mm) (SKU: BM100490) is the large size in Gulfstream Tropical Aquarium’s Mag-Float range, a two-piece floating magnet cleaner measuring 82 x 64 x 24 mm and rated for glass up to 16 mm thick, which Gulfstream sizes for aquariums of up to approximately 1325 litres. It is built for glass only rather than acrylic, since the stronger magnets needed to hold through thick glass can mark a softer acrylic wall. The outer half is moved by hand across the outside of the tank, and the wider inner pad follows it on the inside, clearing a broad band of algae in each pass.

The Large shares its magnet-half footprint with the Mag-float Scrape Lge (SKU BM100494), so the two accept the same replacement pad and felt set (SKU BM200351) once the scrubbing surface wears thin. Side-rail versions of the Large take the Mag-Clip feeding clip (SKU BM100477) for holding seaweed or vegetable matter, and the matching stainless steel replacement scraper two-pack (SKU BM100458) can be fitted for tougher coralline or hard-water deposits that the scrubbing pad does not shift on its own. If the halves separate, the inner magnet floats clear of the substrate rather than sinking, so it can be lifted out instead of retrieved by hand from the bottom of a large tank. Weighing about 0.3 kg, it is noticeably heavier than the Small and Long sizes, which gives it the mass needed to hold a grip through thicker glass.

Usage & Application

When to Use

• Large display aquariums: Tanks up to around 1325 L with glass up to 16 mm thick.
• Glass tanks only: Not intended for acrylic walls given the strength of the magnets.
• Wide front panes: The 64 mm pad width clears more glass per stroke than smaller sizes.
• Routine algae removal: Weekly cleaning on tanks too large for the Small or Long sizes.

Cleaning Technique Guide

• Position squarely: Line the outer magnet up directly over the inner pad before moving it.
• Sweep in broad passes: Use the wider pad to cover large panes in fewer strokes.
• Add the scraper when needed: Fit the matching blade for coralline or hard deposits the pad will not lift.
• Retrieve by floating: Let the inner half surface if it separates rather than reaching into deep water.
