A big tank collects a lot of waste in a lot of gravel, and a small siphon takes a long time to cover it. Nisso Cleaning Siphon L (nam-294) (SKU: 102812) is the large size of Nisso’s cleaning siphon pair, a hand-held siphon tool that carries water and settled debris from the aquarium into a bucket below tank level. It is used at water-change time, passed over the gravel or sand so that waste leaves with the water being removed rather than being stirred up and left to settle again. The L is the model for tanks with a wide substrate area, or deeper ones where a longer, larger tool is easier to handle.

The principle is the same as for any siphon: the bucket must sit below the tank so gravity can move the water, and a greater drop gives a faster flow.
