Dome Breeding Cone Large (SKU: ASL) is the largest of Nijimi’s ceramic dome breeding cones, a solid, upright spawning site designed to give egg-laying fish a secure surface to lay on and their fry a sheltered place to develop. Discus and angelfish naturally spawn on vertical or steeply sloping surfaces such as submerged roots and broad leaves, and a cone offers the same shape in a material that is easy to clean and can be moved with the eggs on it. The large size is aimed at fully grown discus and large angelfish, whose spawning runs cover more surface.

A ceramic cone is heavy enough to stand on a bare floor or on the substrate without anchoring, and it gives a defined spawning site that keeps the eggs away from filter intakes and the tank glass. A pair usually cleans the chosen surface for a day or more before laying rows of eggs, which the parents then guard and fan. Breeders who prefer to hatch the eggs away from the parents lift the whole cone into a separate container with gentle aeration, which is far easier than moving eggs laid on glass. Between spawns the cone is scrubbed in hot water and rinsed, never washed with soap or detergent. Every size suits soft, warm tropical water, and the large cone needs a tank with the height and floor space to stand it clear of the heater and filter.
