Red Sea Coral Pro Salt 22kg Bucket 660ltr (SKU: RED15) makes about 660 L of seawater with Red Sea’s raised foundation-element formula: at 35 ppt it gives 12 dKH alkalinity, 465 ppm calcium and 1,390 ppm magnesium, levels Red Sea describes as biologically balanced for sustainable, accelerated coral growth. The maker’s own words are that Coral Pro’s 12 dKH makes it ideal for mixed reefs and SPS frag tanks, and that with its Reef Care recipes growth can reach up to four times the natural rate.

Red Sea’s reasoning is that a reef aquarium has none of the ocean’s reservoir of foundation elements, so corals deplete them quickly; a salt mixed to raised, correctly proportioned levels restores them with every water change and removes the need to adjust calcium, alkalinity and magnesium afterwards. The base is sodium chloride harvested by solar evaporation of Red Sea water, blended with a full complement of trace elements, free of nitrates, phosphates, chemical binders and toxic heavy-metal levels, and guaranteed for a 10 L mix. Mixed Coral Pro is used within 12 hours to keep its raised levels.

Usage & Application

When to Use

• Reefs of 150 to 400 litres: Weekly 10 per cent changes for several months from one bucket.
• SPS frag and grow-out systems: High alkalinity and calcium for rapid skeleton growth.
• Mixed reefs on the Reef Care Program: Matching the 11.5 dKH mixed-reef recipe out of the bucket.
• Large one-off changes: Up to 30 per cent when changes are less frequent.

Mixing Guide

• Measure by volume: About 22 kg for 660 L; mix only the water needed for the change.
• Salt into cool RO water: About 20 °C, submerged pump, no air, 0.5 to 2 hours to a pH of 8.2 to 8.4.
• Warm and verify: 25 °C and a seawater refractometer reading before use.
• Use within 12 hours: Standing Coral Pro precipitates and loses calcium and alkalinity; keep the bucket lid closed.
