Golden Tree Aqua Soil Black 9L

Description

Golden Tree Aqua Soil Black 9L — Fertile volcanic-ash aqua soil for full-size planted aquariums and aquascapes

A 90 cm aquascape needs enough substrate to bank up a deep back slope and still leave a rooting layer at the front, and small bags rarely stretch that far. Golden Tree Aqua Soil Black 9L (SKU: GT-SOIL-9L) is the large bag of Golden Tree’s black aquarium soil, a granular substrate made from fertile volcanic ash, natural soil and clay rich in humic acids. It is sold as highly fertile and made from 100% natural ingredients, carrying nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium together with trace elements such as calcium, magnesium, iron and manganese for plants that feed through their roots. Nine litres is three times the 3 L bag, enough for a medium to large planted tank in one purchase.

The granules come out of the production process dry, clean and hard, with few foreign materials, which Golden Tree says keeps the water clear from the moment the tank is filled. There is no rinsing; the soil goes in straight from the bag, and it is described as shrimp safe. Litres needed equal length × width × depth in centimetres divided by 1,000, so this bag lays about 5 cm across a 60 × 30 cm base, roughly 3 cm across a 75 × 40 cm base, or a front-to-back slope averaging about 2.5 cm in a 90 × 40 cm tank. On a larger footprint, use it as the planted zone and finish the foreground in sand. Firm granules that hold their shape help a deep bed stay open for water and roots over time. Keep any leftover soil sealed, cool and dry, out of direct sun, and use it only in freshwater aquariums.

Usage & Application

When to Use

• New aquascapes: Medium and large planted layouts built from an empty tank.
• Deep back slopes: Enough volume to bank soil high behind rock and wood.
• Heavy root feeders: Swords, cryptocorynes and stem plant groups that need a rich bed.
• Planted shrimp displays: A shrimp-safe black base for larger dwarf shrimp tanks.

Substrate & Placement Guide

• Straight from the bag: Pour dry soil into the empty tank without washing it.
• Hardscape first: Set rocks and wood, then pour soil around and behind them.
• Protect the slope: Fill slowly over a bag or plate so the soil is not stirred into the water.
• Plant early: Planting can start once the water just covers the soil surface.
