Description
JBL Sansibar River is a natural, rounded sand substrate designed to closely replicate riverbed environments in aquariums and terrariums. With a grain size of 0.2–0.8 mm, it offers a slightly coarser structure than ultra-fine sands while remaining smooth and safe for aquatic life.
The rounded, natural grains are gentle on sensitive mucous membranes and barbels, making Sansibar River an excellent choice for digging and bottom-dwelling species such as rays, kuhli loaches, catfish, and other substrate-sifting fish. Its structure allows fish to burrow and forage naturally without risk of injury.
Sansibar River is chemically neutral and does not release unwanted pollutants into the water, ensuring stable water parameters for fish, invertebrates, and plants. The slightly coarser grain size also makes it well suited for use with undergravel heating cables, allowing efficient heat distribution through the substrate.
For planted aquariums, Sansibar River can be spread over a nutrient substrate to a depth of approximately 6–8 cm, providing stable root support while maintaining good water circulation through the substrate layer.
