Description
Nature Soil 3L 1-1.4mm — Fine-grain Japanese aqua soil for nano planted tanks and carpeting plants
Carpeting plants and small foreground stems root most readily in a fine, even grain that their thin roots can grip from the first day. Nature Soil 3L 1-1.4mm (SKU: NAT3L) is a 3 L bag of Nature Soil in the finer of its two grain sizes, granules of 1 to 1.4 mm. The soil is made in Japan from natural black soil sourced in Kyushu, enriched with fully fermented organic compost and formed into durable granules. Those granules give beneficial bacteria a large area to settle, which the supplier says speeds up biological activation in a new aquarium, and they carry a gentle, naturally weak acidity aimed at strong plant development.
Nutrients in the granules are released slowly, which the supplier states gives steady nutrition without the early algae outbreaks, such as Spirogyra, that a rich new substrate can trigger, and reduces the need for frequent water changes while the tank cycles. It suits most aquatic plants apart from those that need highly specialised conditions, and the fine grain makes a smooth, level surface for carpets, delicate root systems and detailed nano aquascapes. As a guide to quantity, 3 L covers a floor of about 30 × 25 cm at 4 cm deep, or about 30 × 20 cm at 5 cm, so one bag suits a nano tank or the foreground of a larger layout. For a deeper bed in a bigger tank, the 9 L bag in the coarser 2 to 4 mm grain (NAT9L) can form the base layer with this finer grade on top.
Usage & Application
When to Use
- Nano planted tanks: A 3 L bag for small tanks where every centimetre of substrate shows.
- Carpeting plants: A fine grain that small roots anchor in quickly.
- Foreground capping: A finer top layer over the coarser 2 to 4 mm grade.
- Planted shrimp nanos: The supplier positions Nature Soil for both planted and shrimp tanks.
Substrate & Placement Guide
- Lay it dry: Like other granular aqua soils, it goes in unrinsed to keep the granules intact.
- Slope the bed: About 3 to 4 cm at the front, rising to 5 cm or more at the back.
- Fill gently: Pour water onto a plate or bag so the stream does not dig into the soil.
- Plant with tweezers: Push carpet portions and stems in with fine tweezers; the small grain holds them.
