Description
Nature Soil Shrimp 9L 2-4mm — Mineral- and vitamin-enriched aqua soil for planted shrimp breeding tanks
Dwarf shrimp spend their lives on the substrate, grazing it, moulting over it and raising young in it, so the ground under a colony matters more than it does in a fish tank. Nature Soil Shrimp 9L 2-4mm (SKU: NAT-SHR-9L) is the shrimp formulation of Nature Soil, supplied as a 9 L bag of 2 to 4 mm granules. It starts from the same base as the standard soil, natural black soil from Kyushu in Japan enriched with fully fermented organic compost and formed into durable granules, and adds the minerals and vitamins that the supplier says shrimp colonies need to stay healthy, active and stable.
According to the supplier, the added minerals and vitamins support moulting and vitality, and the substrate encourages natural behaviour and breeding. The base soil keeps its gentle, naturally weak acidity and slow nutrient release, so most aquatic plants can grow in the same bed, while the gradual release helps avoid early algae such as Spirogyra. The granules also house beneficial bacteria, which helps a new shrimp tank mature. At 9 L, one bag covers a 60 × 30 cm floor about 5 cm deep, a 45 × 30 cm shrimp tank about 6.5 cm deep, or three 30 × 20 cm breeding tanks at 5 cm. Shrimp go in only once the tank has cycled and ammonia and nitrite both read zero.
Usage & Application
When to Use
- Shrimp breeding tanks: A substrate formulated for colonies that moult and breed on it.
- Planted shrimp displays: One bed for shrimp and most aquatic plants.
- New shrimp set-ups: Granules that host beneficial bacteria help a new tank mature.
- Breeding racks: Three small 30 × 20 cm tanks from one bag at 5 cm deep.
Substrate & Placement Guide
- Lay it dry: Pour straight from the bag without rinsing so the granules stay intact.
- Keep it even: A level bed of 4 to 6 cm, sloped only where plants need extra depth.
- Mature before stocking: Run the filter and test until ammonia and nitrite read zero.
- Disturb it little: Siphon only the surface so shrimp keep grazing an established bed.
