The Fluval AquaClear Intake Strainer Sponge (SKU: FAQ41) is a specialised pre-filter sponge designed to slide directly over the intake strainers of Fluval AquaClear 70 and 110 (AC70/AC110) Power Filters. Engineered to act as a physical barrier, it prevents small fish, fry, baby dwarf shrimp, and long-finned species from being drawn into the filter intake stem and impeller chamber.

In addition to protecting delicate livestock, this high-porosity sponge delivers initial mechanical pre-filtration by trapping floating plant leaves, fish waste, and uneaten food before it reaches the main filter media. By catching coarse debris early, it prevents premature clogging of internal filter inserts, extending filter maintenance intervals while providing additional surface area for beneficial nitrifying bacteria to colonise.

Usage & Application

How to Use

4. During regular water changes, slip the sponge off and gently squeeze it in a bucket of removed aquarium water to clear accumulated debris without destroying beneficial bacteria.
