The Fluval Surface Skimmer Unit (SKU: PF164) is an essential intake accessory designed to pull water simultaneously from the aquarium surface and mid-water levels. By drawing off surface film, floating dust, organic oils, and protein scum directly into your canister filter, it prevents the formation of an unsightly surface barrier and significantly enhances surface gas exchange. The Surface Skimmer helps eliminate undesirable films and organic waste, while oxygenating the water and keeping it clean in the process.

Compatible with standard Fluval canister filter intake hosing (05, 06, 07 series and others), the Surface Skimmer fits all Fluval 05/06/07 series Canister filters. It draws water from the surface of the aquarium, eliminating undesirable surface films. This adjustable unit features a self-adjusting floating intake head that automatically adapts to fluctuating aquarium water levels due to evaporation. An integrated flow adjustment rod allows you to easily balance the suction ratio between surface skimming and deep-water intake. Marine aquariums in particular that do not employ a surface overflow will substantially benefit from the implementation of the surface skimmer because it contains no metal parts.

How to Use / Installation Process

1. Attach the surface skimmer assembly to your canister filter’s intake hose using the provided adapters.

2. Secure the main vertical intake pipe to the interior aquarium glass using the included suction cups.

3. Position the upper floating skimmer cup so it rests evenly at the water line.

4. Rotate the control rod to balance intake flow between the floating surface valve and the lower strainer.
