Sometimes the diaphragm is not the only thing that has gone, and a soiled pump head will keep a fresh membrane from doing its job. Schego Prima Air Chamber & Diaphragm Kit (SKU: SH732) is the air chamber and diaphragm kit to suit the Schego Prima air pump. In Schego’s parts list for the Prima, item 732 is the pump head, and Schego’s instructions say that the white pump head can be replaced as well as the diaphragm if it is heavily soiled. The kit therefore renews the part of the pump that actually handles the air, leaving the case, coil and cable as they are.

The Prima is Schego’s smallest membrane pump, rated 220–240 V at 50 Hz for indoor use, and retailer specifications list 110 L/h at no head, 100 L/h at 0.5 m, 3 W, a case of about 116 × 66 × 51 mm and 41 dBA with no flow adjustment. Schego’s maintenance steps are to unplug the pump, remove the housing cover, take off the diaphragm nut and the metal rocker armature, and pull off the diaphragm or replace the complete pump head. After rebuilding, the gap between the magnet and the coil should be about 1 mm. If the head is clean and only the membrane is worn, the cheaper diaphragm set (SH731) is enough. The supplier does not list the individual pieces in the kit, so the old head should be compared with the new one before the pump is dismantled further.

• Set the gap: Rebuild in reverse order and leave about 1 mm between magnet and coil.
