Usage & Application

When to Use

• Routine Water Monitoring: Test weekly to ensure your aquarium retains sufficient buffering capacity for long-term pH stability.

• RO/DI Water Remineralisation: Use when testing pure Reverse Osmosis water before adding mineral buffers for planted or shrimp tanks.

• Planted & Reef Systems: Track KH regularly in planted aquariums (where carbon dioxide injection reduces alkalinity) and reef tanks (where corals absorb carbonates to build skeletons).

• Diagnosing Unstable pH: Test immediately if you notice unexplained pH fluctuations, lethargy, or signs of distress in your livestock.

How to Use

1. Fill the clean test tube with 5 mL of aquarium water up to the marked line.

2. Hold the KH test bottle vertically and add the reagent drop by drop into the test tube. Count each drop as it enters.

3. Cap the tube securely and invert several times after every drop to mix completely.

4. Continue adding drops until the solution turns from blue to bright yellow.

5. The number of drops required to achieve the bright yellow colour change equals your water’s carbonate hardness in degrees (°dKH).
