Red Sea Magnesium Pro Testing Kit 100 Tests (SKU: RED252) is Red Sea’s advanced titration test for magnesium in a reef aquarium, with an accuracy of 20 ppm, and it is the test the maker specifies for dosing its Magnesium Foundation C supplement. In a reef at 1,350 ppm, a 20 ppm resolution is fine enough to catch the weekly draw of a stony-coral tank and to confirm a new salt mix before it goes in.

The box holds Reagent A and Reagent B at 25 mL each, 75 mL of titrant, a titrator, a 5 mL syringe, a dosing spoon, a colour card and instructions, with analytical-grade glass vials in a durable, chemical-resistant plastic case. The treated sample is titrated until the colour turns, the volume read from the titrator as the magnesium level. With 100 tests there is enough for two years of weekly readings or a year of closer monitoring on a daily-dosed system, and reagent refills are part of Red Sea’s range. When to Use

• Weekly magnesium checks: Reefs dosing Foundation C to the 1,220 to 1,390 ppm recipes for their tank type.
• Unstable calcium or alkalinity: The first test to run when the other two foundation elements will not hold their levels.
• New salt and water changes: Confirming the mix delivers its stated magnesium level before use.
• Dosing-pump calibration: Measuring uptake over four days to set the daily dose.

How to Use

• Sample: Measure tank water into the vial with the 5 mL syringe.
• Add reagents: Reagent A and Reagent B in the stated amounts, and mix gently.
• Titrate: Add titrant a drop at a time until the colour changes and read magnesium from the titrator scale.
• Dose and log: Correct with Foundation C at no more than 10 ppm a day, and record the result in the tank log.
